Projects Overview

Print

The Meadows community and the Meadows 150 Coordinating Committee undertook an interesting mix of projects that will leave a lasting legacy for the Meadows township. Some of these projects are completed and others are ongoing as the Meadows 150 Coordinating Committe 'winds up' the year of celebrations and expends remaining funds.

Current projects:

  • Streetscape Masterplan – a plan was developmed in conjunction with the District Council of Mt Barker. Some broad concepts were developed that identify focal points and precincts along the main street. The engaved paver project (see below) was one part of the plan that was undertaken as part of the Meadows 150 celebrations. An upgrade of aspects of Battunga Park will be the intial focus of implementing aspects of the masterplan. There are many additional interesting options that can be considered in the future.
  • Interpretive Signs and Heritage Walk - this is a proposed project to add to the existing Meadows' Heritage Walk pamphlet and help communicate more of the interesting and varied historical material that was collected as part of the Meadows 150 celebrations.

Past projects include:

  • Oral history project and commemorative DVD of Meadows’ history to highlight the town and district’s important role in the development of the Adelaide Hills region. The DVD is still available for purchase - see merchandise page.

  • Historical photographic collection and Meadows archive – more than 1000 photos were scanned and a selection of these can be viewed on the photo gallery section of this web site. The photo collection is an important part of the pictorial content of the commemorative DVD and in future it will be accessible through the District Council of Mount Barker's Local History Centre.  The Local History Centre catalogue can be searched here.

  • Rehabilitation of the Meadows Creek – a Meadows Creek Committee was established to help restore the section of the Meadows Creek that runs from Battunga to Mawson Roads and additional sections where there is interest from property owners. A plaque to acknowledge the work undertaken and the groups involved can be found in Battunga Park. The Native vegetation planted along the creekline has flourished since being planted by the Primary School and Kindergarten students.

  • Photographic archive of the Meadows 150 Celebrations – a local photographic group (Adelaide Hills Flickr Group) captured the events taking place in 2009 to provide a record of the celebrations.

  • Engraved pavers – Meadows’ residents, past and present, were invited to leave their mark in the main street. The finale of the celebrations was the unveiling of the engraved pavers outside the Meadows Memorial Hall by Mayor Anne Ferguson 30 October 2010.  Despite some interest, the Committee is not able to commit that further engraved paving will be undertaken. However, if you are interested in expressing interest should further engarved paver options eventuate, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. • Archaeology of Wesleyan Cemetery – the Battunga Country Lions Club can be contacted for a brochure describing the results of work undertaken in November 2008 of a geophysical survey of Meadows’ Wesleyan Cemetery.

  • M150 postmark - to celebrate the town’s sesquicentenary, a special Meadows 150 postmark was designed, incorporating the official logo for the celebrations.
  • Meadows Memories – in addition to the oral history project, people were invited to add their ‘Memories of Meadows’ to this website. .
  • Meadows 150 Merchandise – a range of official 150 Merchandise was available for purchase.
